Summer Peaks: A Poetry Week

A Three-Day Poetry Marathon

Summer has a way of changing us. It's the season when people fall in love, leave home, grieve what was, chase impossible dreams, rediscover themselves, and sometimes become someone entirely new. This July, The Writer's Hood is celebrating that beautiful chaos with Summer Peaks—a three-day poetry marathon featuring workshops, readings, writing prompts, and conversations with me alongside an incredible lineup of guest poets (to be announced soon!). Together we'll explore how to write the moment before everything changes—those quiet turning points, impossible choices, first kisses, last goodbyes, awakenings, departures, and all the emotional landscapes that make summer unforgettable. Whether you're an experienced poet, a songwriter, a playwright, or someone who's simply been carrying a notebook around waiting for the right moment, this week is for you. July 13–15 (times TBD) Price Ranges: 3-Day Marathon: $75 2- Day Marathon: $50 1- Day Marathon: $25

Short Film Intensive

Two-Day Intensive

Some stories don't want to be two hours long. Sometimes they arrive as a single moment. The short film is one of the most exciting forms in storytelling because it asks writers to do something incredibly difficult: say more with less. Join award-winning writer and director Jessica Mendez Siqueiros for a two-day intensive designed to help you transform an idea into a compelling short narrative—fast. Whether you're interested in festivals, directing your own work, expanding your portfolio, or simply learning the craft of visual storytelling, Jessica will guide you through the fundamentals of writing a short film that leaves a lasting impression. Her work has screened at more than 75 film festivals and has been recognized by Palm Springs ShortFest, Cinequest, and supported by Disney, Sundance, and Warner Media. By the end of the weekend, you'll leave with the foundation of a short film—and the tools to keep developing it long after class ends. July 18–19 5:00–7:30 PM ET | 2:00–4:30 PM PT Price: TWH Studio Members: $50 Non-Members: $75
